NEET 2017 – Eligibility Criteria & Qualification for Appearing


Students who are aspiring to join MBBS/BDS should clear National Eligibility cum Entrance Test ( NEET-UG ) conducted by CBSE before admission. Before applying for NEET 2017, aspirant are requested to read the eligibility criteria prescribed by CBSE in detail. Candidate who doesn’t fulfill the required criteria, will not be allowed to appear the examination under any circumstance. The Syllabus for NEET 2017 consist of  four sections – Physics, Chemistry, Botany & Zoology from Class XI and Class XII portions.

 

Eligibility Criteria for 15% All India Quota Seats in NEET 2017

  • Candidate must be an Indian national.
  • He/She must have completed 17 years of age as or on December 31, 2017.
  • The upper age limit is 25 years as on 31st December 2017. Should be born on or between 01/01/93 to 01/01/2001 (Other Category)
  • The upper age limit is relaxed by FIVE years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC Category. Should be born on or between 01/01/88 to 01/01/2001 (SC/ST/OBC Category)
  • Students from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and J & K are not eligible for 15% All India Quota seats. But upon fulfilment of other criteria, they can submit an online self declaration for appearing the exam and can seek admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or any Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune.

 

Eligibility Criteria for 85% State Quota Seats in NEET 2017

  • Candidate must be an Indian national.
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are eligible for admission subject to rules and regulations framed by the respective State Governments and the Government of India.
  • He/She must have completed 17 years of age as or on December 31, 2017.
  • The upper age limit shall be as per their rules and regulations framed by the participating States/Universities/Institutions.
  • Students must have completed his Class XII or should be appearing in Class XII Exam from the state for which he is seeking admission.

 

Minimum Marks Required in Qualifying Examinations

  • Applicant must have passed/appearing any of the qualifying examinations mentioned below.
  • He/She must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and should score a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination.
  • For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together in qualifying examination shall be 40% marks.
  • General category Candidates with locomotor disability of lower limbs, shall obtain a minimum of 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology taken together.

 

Educational Qualification and Qualification Examination Codes for NEET 2017

CODE : 01
Students who are appearing for Class XII Examinations in 2017 and whose result is awaited may apply for NEET 2017. But they are not eligible for admissions if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with required pass percentage.

CODE : 02
The Higher/senior secondary education or the Indian school certificate examination after a period of 12 years study, of which the last two years of such study should comprise Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) or Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at the level not less than the core of English.

CODE : 03
The intermediate/pre degree examination in Science of an India University/Board or other recognised examination body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.

CODE : 04
The pre-professional/pre-medical examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and English after passing either at higher secondary, pre-university examinations or an equivalent examination.

CODE : 05
The first year of the three years of degree from a recognised university with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests. He/She must have also passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology with English at a level not less than a core course.

CODE : 06
B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology. He/She should have also passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

CODE : 07
Any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University/Board with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and also English as a compulsory subject.

 

NOTE:
The Pre-medical course may be conducted either at a Medical College or at a Science College.
Marks obtained in Mathematics are not to be considered for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses.
